AES Resources Group was developed to help individuals from deprived backgrounds obtain the knowledge and resources necessary to attend college. During that journey we discovered that there was a very large number of individuals within our community that lacked a high school diploma. This became a barrier for those wanting to enter college and be eligible for financial aid. To bridge the educational gap, we started A+ Educational Society in 2017 and became a state authorized testing center. As a certified testing center, individuals from all over the metroplex came to our center for official equivalency exam testing. Unfortunately, those taking equivalency exams were failing. We did some research and discovered this was because the current curriculum being taught was irrelevant to the exam.
The area needed a self-pace modernized program that was also flexible and affordable. Furthermore, traditional programs only prepared students for equivalency exams–they do not pay for or provide exams at their locations. Another interesting fact is that no organizations within our community offer to prepare students for the HiSET exam. Adults in Texas now have a choice of which equivalency exam they want to take, we stepped in to make sure they also had the assets available in the community to support that choice. Thus, AES Literacy Institute (ALI) was formed as a direct response to the growing number of individuals in the DFW area without a high school diploma or its equivalent, addressing the need in the community to help individuals prepare for, take, and pass official equivalency exams.
We primarily work with at-risk youth ages 16-24, disadvantaged/low-income individuals, underprivileged minority, immigrant, and re-entry adults in the DFW that lack a high school diploma or its equivalent. Our culturally competent team works directly alongside the individuals in our community to develop and deliver an adult education program that fulfills their wants and needs.
